An Internet-based e-mail client, currently deemed Office Live Mail, may be a crucial component of Microsoft’s Office Live software-as-a-service offering.
The LiveSide blog, a site that tracks Microsoft Live progress, detailed some of Office Live Mail’s alleged features. LiveSide is an independent site, operated by a hand full of Microsoft big shots, among others, which tracks Microsoft Live progress.
“Office Live Mail provides users with the ability to read and receive emails from any Internet-connected computer in the world. Ideal for those on the move, Office Live Mail can be accessed from either a web browser or Outlook 2000/2003,” the site reported.
Here are a few features LiveSide said to expect upon the beta release of Office Live Mail:
-Office Live Mail will offer both free and paid accounts. The free of charge accounts will give users 250 MB of storage, and paid members will get 2GB.
-Office Live Mail will give Outlook 2000 and 2003 access via HTTP as a “trial service.” Users will be able to read mail from their existing MSN Plus and MSN Premium accounts.
-Users of Office Live Mail will be able to assign up to 10 “favorite contact” or “Quickname” designations.
